TG’s Food, Nutrition and Menu Planning

Healthy food for positive development.

TG’s children learn to be food experts because they are involved in the entire journey of their meals from garden to table. They have hands-on fun growing food in our gardens. They are trusted with the knowledge and responsibility in caring for these food plants. Children learn about food preparation and appreciate the effort required to prepare their meals. They learn to be responsible for what they choose to eat.

We have fun at mealtimes at TG´s! We talk about our gardening experiences and listen as the children express their curiosity and thoughts about food preferences.

We see children gradually get adventurous with their food preferences and celebrate these achievements as a family at home.

  • Children love our fresh fruit and vegetables especially pumpkin scones, zucchini spaghetti, and the carrots, spinach, zucchini, tomato hiding in our delicious pasta sauces and bases.

  • Vegetables are provided as part of mid meals and main meals.

  • We use wholemeal and multigrain bread and 50/50 white and wholemeal flour. All crackers are wholemeal/grain.

  • We avoid processed foods, additives and MSG.

  • Salt reduced products are used including salt reduced soy sauce, and we ensure lower sodium content in any processed meats.

  • We cater to children with various gluten, dairy, nut and egg allergies, intolerances. We make space for personal preferences and we can make them taste great too!

  • Meal times are a great time for discovery as we have an interesting variety of foods, colours and textures and we encourage children to try the variety on offer each day.

TG’s Meals are recognised by “Munch and Move” and

“Good for Kids”.

Our Nutritional program ensures the menu rotates on a 4 week cycle and is seasonal (changed every 3 months).

Our menu is scrutinised by NSW Health nutritionists and complies with the National Quality Standards.

Good food and nutrition have a positive impact on our children’s behaviour and development in both our rooms and at home.

It is essential for early childhood development that children learn good nutrition early in life and adopt the food habits that will help them maintain good health into adulthood.

TG's plans a great seasonal menu which uses a variety of foods, colours and textures e.g. fruits, vegetables, lean beef mince, chicken, tuna and foods rich in iron and Vitamin C.

Meals are planned according to the children's age and developmental level, as well as any allergies and intolerances. We also include the families' input because clear communication with families ensures we are all on board together to support the children's nutrition. It's about enjoying healthy food together!
